Slowing Down with Mitochondrial Myopathy
When Karen Fieri was 30 years old, she had trouble healing after a hysterectomy. The pain that followed eventually led to a diagnosis of Mitochondrial Myopathy, a metabolic condition caused by a mutation in mitochondrial DNA. Looking back, it was easy to see that she’d always had some symptoms of the condition and had assumed that many of the things she’d experienced were just a normal part of growing up. Karen discusses her experience with doctors, the lifestyle changes she and her family have made to keep them healthy, and how she manages to stay positive while living with a chronic condition.
